I am a native New Yorker and have lived and worked downtown since my graduation from the School of Visual Arts in 1991 until 2006. In 2006 I moved to Tel Aviv. In 1993 I continued on to graduate studies in New York and Switzerland in the theoretical arenas of Media Theory and Philosophy. Both degrees were rooted in contemporary cultural thought. After completing my PhD in 2002, I have been concentrating on creating and exhibiting my sculpture, performance, and video work.
The sentiment behind the work is deeply rooted in failure -- in failing big. I transform banal materials into elegant and awkward theatrical malfunctions which explore the failure of personal as well as cultural hopes and fantasies, and illuminate the intangible space between grand dreams and pathetic realities. Introducing myself as a raw material in the performance and video work drives the concept further -- from virtuosity to humiliation, from pride to embarrassment.
My exhibition credits include, Klaus von Nichtsaggend Gallery, the Fieldgate Gallery, Ingalls Gallery, The Soap Factory, the Pool Art Fair, Sleep Spaces at the d.u.m.b.o. arts center, White Box's Annex, and the Sara Meltzer Gallery, among others. I have been the recipient of a grant from the Israel Department of Culture, and a fellowship at the St.John's Pottery in Minnesota, sponsored by the Jerome Foundation, and guest lecturer at academic institutions both in Israel and the US.
My upcoming projects include an exhibition in NY at the NYCAMS Gallery, the Herzl Mirage show in Tel Aviv, and a 20 year anniversary exhibition at the Soap Factory in Minneapolis.
